Finding a name for a product is nowadays an art by itself. Legal issues, marketing issues, and emotional issues play an important role in the decision process. Finding a name for this product - that was originally developed under the code name Fusion - was no different. After a long thought period we decided for the name Redbex.

Redbex is a portmanteau word formed from red and ibex and refers to the alpine ibex that is on the list of endangered species (the red list). After being extinct for many years the alpine ibex was reintroduced in the Hohe Tauern (the mountain region near Salzburg) around 1970.

The ibex is an excellent climber, its ability to move through rocky terrain fast but seemingly effortless is stunning. Redbex tries to move as elegantly in the rocky terrain of data management as the ibex does in the rocky terrain of the Alps.
