Each authentication attempt (successful or not) is logged by the system for later evaluation. If the authentication was successful and resulted in the creation of a user session the authentication attempt is connected with that user session The authentication history can only be read by users with the system permission Read authentication log (6).

The authentication log can be purged to delete the entries of unsuccessful authentication attempts. The authentication history can be purged by users with the system permission Purge authentication log (7).

Purging will delete all authentication log entries created in a given time span that are not connected to a user session i.e. authentication log entries of unsuccessful authentication attempts..
