Whenever a import definition is executed an import session is created on the Application Server. Import sessions therefore provide a history of data imports performed from a specific import definition.

Import definitions that have not been persisted as import templates before the definition was executed will record the import session as On-the-fly import session. Imports executed from stored import definitions will record the import session linked to that stored import definition.

Linking of features and observations to import sessions

All features and all observations that are created during an import are linked to that import session. Note: If an observations is updated by an import session the old observation is actually deleted and then a new observation is created. The linking of features and observations to import sessions is used by Redbex

Source files

Import sessions for import types that read data from files can optionally store the original source files. If source files were stored with an import session the user may delete those source files at a later point in time without deleting the import session or deleting the data created or modified by the import session.
