For a user to be able to connect to the Application Server he needs a user name and a password. The user name is defined when a user is created (and can also be changed afterwards).

For users with Authentication type Local

Users with the system permission Manage users and user groups (0) can advice the Application Server to set or reset the password of a user, if the authentication type for that user is set to local.

The Application Server will then assign a new random password to the specified user that matches the password quality rules defined in the Global Settings. The new password will be sent via email to the email address associated with that user. The Email will contain all information the user needs to logon to the Application Server.

After the Application Server set or reset the password of a user it will force the user to change his password on the next (or first) login.

Note that there is no way for the user who initiates resetting a password to know the new password of the user.
