Many feature types define a Boolean zero reading property for the observation property structure.

Observations marked as zero readings are observations where the observer assumes that the sensor or the observed phenomenon changed so that the observed values are not comparable to the last observed values. I.e. the observer assumes that the change in values between the observation prior to the zero reading and the zero reading observation is not necessarily representing the change in the characteristics of the natural phenomenon.
