Classification elements are the contents of a classification they form the vocabulary of the classification i.e. they are the actual values that can be selected when entering data for properties of type classification or multi-select classification.

For each classification element the system stores a code, a name, a description and a sequence number. The name is mandatory and must be unique within the classification. The code can be empty but if given must also be unique within the classification. The description can be used to further describe the classification element. The sequence number can be used to force a specific ordering of the classification elements.

The user can define the visual appearance for each classification element. When values of classification properties are visualized the visualization (e.g. map, chart etc) can choose to use these visual appearance settings.

Using property structure configuration users can define the preferred ordering of classification elements For each property of type classification or multi-select classification the user can set the preferred ordering of elements to Sequence + Name + Code or, Sequence + Code + Name.
