The instance identifier is a string that uniquely identifies a single instance of the Application Server on a computer. The instance identifier is usually defined when running the Setup Program for the Application Server or the Application Server Instance. It is stored in the instance configuration file and can therefore be changed.

The instance identifier must match the regular expression ^[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z0-9_]{3,49}$. The Application Server will use the instance Identifier in several places, e.g. as virtual directory for the hosted Web Services.

Note that your license code will only be valid for a specific instance identifier (the identifier set when the license code was requested). When changing the instance identifier you will therefore need a new license code.
