A feature or an observation can be handled by any number of approval workflows, but only one approval workflow can be the active approval workflow. To create a new workflow on a feature or on observations that were already handled by another approval workflow this already existing workflow has to be marked as obsolete. Obsolete workflows are kept in the system for traceability reasons but they do not define the feature's or observations' approval status.

To mark an approval workflow as inactive the user has to have the feature permission Set approval obsolete (10). Only closed approval workflows can be  set obsolete. Running workflows have to be aborted first.

If a feature's or observations' Approval workflow is marked obsolete the Approval Status of the feature or observation will be set to Ready.

The Application server will store who set the workflow to obsolete.
