The Redbex Smart Client is a Windows application that provides a user interface to data and services provided by Redbex Application Servers. Being the primarily user interface for the Redbex Application Server developed by Pöyry Infra GmbH the Smart Client covers most of the Application Servers functionality.

Note that due to the open design of the Application Server other client software (perhaps not even published by Pöyry Infra GmbH) might also provide a user interface to the functionality of the Application Server e.g. web clients or clients for mobile devices.

The Smart Client can connect to any Redbex Application Server, as long as the versions are compatible (you may also install different Versions of the Smart Client in parallel). The Application Server the Smart Client connects to can be installed on the same computer, in the same local area network or somewhere on the internet.

In comparison to a Web Browser based user interface the Smart Client is more powerful, provides a richer user interface and can post-process data it retrieved from the Application Server. In comparison to a traditional Rich Client Graphical User Interface it does not implement any business logic. I.e. all the logic for processing data etc. resides on the Application Server.

The Smart Client comes in three different flavors: Smart Client Full, Smart Client Light and Smart Client Portable. These three flavors are only different in terms of installation but provide the same functionality.
