Axis reference system

Scroll Prev Up Next More

This spatial system is used to specify location, shape and orientation (LSO) of a feature or observation on or near an axis that is defined based on a projected system. Axis LSO are given with a reference to a axis reference system defined on top of an axis.

The shape of an LSO in an axis reference system is either a point or a section of the axis placed either exactly on the axis or at a defined offset from it. Table 1 summarizes the data an axis LSO consists of. An axis LSO is defined as empty if start offset and end offset or axis reference system are not given.

Description

Axis reference system

The axis reference system in which the other parameters are expressed.

Start offset

The offset from the reference system origin that specifies the start of the interval expressed by the LSO.

The unit used to express this offset is the unit defined with the axis reference system.

End offset

The offset from the reference system starting point that specifies the end of the interval expressed by the LSO.

The unit used to express this offset is the unit defined with the axis reference system.

Start offset and end offset together define the orientation of the axis LSO if start offset > end offset the orientation is contrary to the orientation of the axis reference system.

For locations with no length the start offset is the same value as the end offset. These locations will always have the same direction as the used axis reference system.

If the Client does provide an LSO with only Offset 1 or only Offset 2 given the Application Server will automatically set the missing value to the given value. I.e.: If Offset 1 is given and Offset 2 is not given Offset 2 is set to the value of Offset 1. If Offset 2 is given and Offset 1 is not given Offset 1 is set to the value of Offset 2.

Local Coordinate System (LCS) Offset

The real world object described by an axis LSO is not necessarily located directly on the axis. The LCS offset describes the offset of the real world object from the axis using the three dimensional local coordinate system with its origin being on the axis at the specified start offset.

The LCS Offset is a 3D Vector (T, L, H) where T is the transversal offset, L the longitudinal offset, and H the height offset.

The default LCS offset is (0,0,0)
