The Distribution Server is a server hosted by Pöyry Infra GmbH. It provides several services to Application Server and Smart Client installations e.g. distribution of Smart Client updates, distribution of Modular Updates and Licensing.

For Smart Client Installations the Distribution Server provides a service that allows Smart Clients to check for new versions. If a new version is found the Distribution Server will tell the requesting Smart Client the URL where the update to the new version can be loaded. The Update check is performed by the Smart Client on request of the user. The Distribution Server will only deliver updates that have the same Application Server compatibility version as the already installed Smart Client, therefore an update will never break the version compatibility.

The Distribution Server provides several services for Application Server installations subsumed under the term Modular updates. The data for this modular updates is provided by the Distribution Server.
