If you decide to use this scenario you will install the Application Server Database and the Application Server on the same machine. The Smart Client is installed on all client Computers from where you want to access the Application Server.

For the communication protocol between Smart Client and Application Server you can choose TCP if you are on a local area network else use HTTP.

When to use this scenario

•More than one person want to access the Application Server from different locations

•You have higher requirements on information security

•You already have an 24/7 server running

•Backup can be handled by a central server

•Can be used to access data via Internet

•Data transfer between tiers Application Server and Application Server Database

Con

•Load for database and processing on the same computer

•When accessing through the internet both the Database Server and the Application Server are exposed
