Table 1 lists the validation rules that are used to check the validity of the installed license code.

The validity of the installed license code is checked on startup of the Application Server and before each creation of  a new user session. If the license is found to be not valid the execution of views will be disabled and you wont be able to access features and observations.

Validation rule

Description

Application Server Version

The Application Server requires a license code that matches the current version of the Application Server.

The license code is valid on the current Application Server if the Major Version of the Application Server is less or equal the major version encoded in the license code.

Therefore it is possible that after installation of a new Version of the Application Server you might need a new license code.

Validity period

The license code might define a validity period (a from and a to date) that specifies in which time range the license code is considered as valid.

Validity duration

The license code might define a validity duration (in days), that specifies how long the Application Server can be used with this license code.

The validity duration is mostly used by the demo license. The validity duration is counted from the date of license installation.

Operating environment checksum

A checksum of an operating environment on which this license will be valid. This checksum is automatically provided by the Application Server when requesting a license.

The checksum used is simply the result of a mathematical operation on some of your environments properties, one cannot infer any particular property of your environment from that checksum.

In case you change the operating system or the computer hardware your operating environment checksum might change and you will need to request a new license code.

The demo license is an exception to this rule, this license is not bound to a computer/hardware and may be used on any computer.

Instance identifier

The license code is only valid if the instance identifier encoded in the license code matches the instance identifier of the Application Server instance.
