When installed the Smart Client registers files with the extension .RedbexConnection as files to be opened with the Redbex Smart Client.
If installed with the Full Setup the extension is registered for all uses on the computer, with the Light and Portable Setup the extension is registered only for the use installing the Smart Client.
.RedbexConnection files contain information about a Redbex Application Server connection i.e. the same information that you enter manually when creating an Application Server Connection in the Application Server Connections window. Passwords are never stored with .RedbexConnection files.
When opening a .RedbexConnection file (e.g from Windows Explorer) the Smart Client is opened and the contents of the connection file are passed to the Smart Client.
If there no stored Application Server connection with the same server name , instance name, protocol, port number, and user name the Smart Client adds a new connection to the stored Application Server connections. If the contents of the Redbex Connection file define the connection as default connection the newly created Application Server connection will be set as the default connection.
Regardless if the connection specified in the .RedbexConnection file is already in the list of stored Application Server Connections of the Smart Client the Smart Client will then choose this connection and will present the Connect to Application Server window.
Creating .RedbexConnection files
.RedbexConenction files can be created from by exporting a connection from the Application Server Connections window, or from the User and User Groups Window..RedbexConnection files are plain XML files that can also be created or modified manually.
