Access to Distribution Server (Internet connection)

During installation the Setup Program will download missing components from the Redbex Distribution Server. Therefore you will need HTTP access (Port 80) to distribution.redbex.com.

Access to Database Server

Since the Redbex Application Server accesses the Redbex Application Server Database it is essential that the computer on which the Application Server is installed has a network connection to the Database Server on which the Redbex Application Server Database is hosted.

Usually (and this is also highly recommended) the Application Server and the Application Server database are in the same network. If you have a firewall, a NAT service or similar between the Application Server and the Application Server Database be sure to open up all ports needed for SQL server communication. See chapter Application Server Database Firewall configuration for more details.

Outgoing connections

The Application Server needs Internet access via HTTP to download data from the Redbex Distribution Server. If your Application Server is installed behind a Web Proxy Server, i.e. if you have only access to the Internet via a proxy server you have the possibility to configure the HTTP proxy connection during the Setup Assistant for the Application Server.

Theoretically (but not recommended) the Internet connection needs not to be permanent but must be available during installation and during the first start of the Application Server as well as when downloading new data or licenses from the Distribution server. Running the Application Server without Internet access will however make administration cumbersome.

Incoming network connections

Clients can access the Redbex Application Server through HTTP, HTTPS or TCP protocols on the ports configured during Setup. The Application Server must allow connections on these ports. Firewall software (on the Server running the Redbex Application Server, as well as any other firewall Software between the Application Server and the Clients must be configured accordingly. The Windows Firewall on the Server on which the Redbex Application Server is installed can be automatically configured by the Setup Program if advised by the user when running the Setup Wizard.

If you want to run the Application Server in a Network that uses NAT to connect hosts to the Internet, and if you want to connect to the Application Server from the Internet the NAT must be configured accordingly.

Access to SMTP Server

The Application Server uses SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to send login details (username, password, etc) to newly created users. Therefore it is mandatory that you can access an SMTP server and send emails via that server. In the Global Settings you can configure the access parameters.
